NCPAPA Professional Development Catalog:
Leading the Transition to Common Core Standards

The North Carolina Principals' and Assistant Principals' Association invites you to attend a seminar on the topic of Leading the Transition to the Common Core Standards. This session, designed for school level administrators, focuses on how leaders can successfully guide their faculties in adopting the new Common Core State Standards. In-depth analysis of the standards is paired with examination of teaching strategies that are most appropriately matched to increase rigor and skill-development.

During this interactive session, participants will collaboratively engage in practical application of research-based leadership principles most critical to the Common Core transition. All participating school leaders will leave the session with an initial plan for implementation with their faculty.

Participants will:
- Compare the SCOS to the CCSS
- Understand to how align the curriculum both vertically and horizontally
- Recognize best instructional practices; What does it look like, sound like, feel like
- Discuss strategies for teacher learning and collaboration
- Assess implementation and create a strategic plan

Participants will receive a certificate acknowledging 6 hours of completed CEU credits.

The Teacher Evaluation Process: A More Complete Understanding and An Opportunity to Practice with the Rubric

Gain hands on experience to effectively manage the new evaluation system for teachers and elevate your schools' capacity! In this session participants will practice working with the teacher evaluation rubric to master the skills needed to effectively manage the process.

Participants will:
- Use the new teacher evaluation standards to transform the learning environments in their schools
-Actual guided practice using the rubric as an observation tool
-Gain insight into how to document certain teacher behaviors that may not be easily identified in the rubric
- Differentiate effectively between the various levels of teacher performance as reflected by the new rating scale
